Art of Cooking -September 8, 2016

CU Denver Students went to Cook Street School of Culinary Arts to cook some delicious Mexican Street Food. We had a blast making tacos, coleslaw, and paletas! The chefs were amazing and taught us grilling skills, knife skills, and of course tasting! We can’t wait until next year’s Art of Cooking, so if you missed out this year, we hope you’ll join us next year.

Gaelynn Lea-October 5, 2016

This year we were able to add an amazing addition to our traditional music showcase. In years past we bring student musicians to showcase their music, and while some students performed at this event, we also hosted an amazing performer who just won NPR’s 2016 Tiny Desk Contest.

Gaelynn Lea is a classically trained violinist and songwriter. We had the amazing opportunity to bring her to campus for a performance and panel discussion. Our student musicians opened for her, and then many other students enjoyed her performance and discussion.

Poetry Night-October 19, 2016

This year we brought a poetry night to campus featuring the amazing poet Cassy Huidobro. Students who attended the event were able to get a free beverage at the Library Cafe before sitting down to a poetry workshop with Huidobro. Many students even participated in writing poems during the workshop and sharing them with the rest of the group. All in all, Huidobro hosted an amazing poetry workshop and we discovered new talents from fellow students.

Masterpieces & Milkshakes-October 31, 2016

This year’s Masterpieces & Milkshakes was all decked out for Halloween! Students enjoyed pumpkin spice, apple pie, and other types of yummy milkshakes while working on some truly spooktacular masterpieces.

Everyone had lots of fun making pictures of pumpkins and other spooky things! Our team even dressed up for the occasion–donning our character onsies. We can’t wait until next year!

Coming Home: Veteran Storytelling Event-Tivoli 320

CU Denver Veteran & Military Student Services teamed up with CU Denver Live! to create a storytelling event featuring stories from veterans personal experiences during their times of service. During the veterans stories, a live painter, Laurie Maves, created a wonderful masterpiece.

Overall, we heard a lot of powerful stories from student veterans and hoped everyone enjoyed the event.

We were so fortunate to have four incredible Denver entrepreneurs speak to our students at the very first Entrepreneurship event. We heard their stories behind creating their businesses and even got to see a liquid nitrogen demonstration!

Thanks to Dave Ratner, Ru Johnson, Robert Castro, and Ian Kleinman and to all the other entrepreneurs who participated in our networking booths.

We can’t wait for the next one!

CU Denver Live! offered discounted tickets to students for the Tony award winning Broadway musical, An American In Paris! The show featured incredible ballerinas, beautiful set design, and unforgettable songs by the Gershwin brothers.

We also had a special soiree before the musical at Backstage Coffee where students were able to relax and connect.

Thanks to everyone who attended and made this possible!

MNDM-02MAINDance Marathon – April 13, 2017

CU Denver Live! teamed up with the Dance Marathon committee to create this year’s Lynx-a-thon. Lynx-a-thon is a day-long marathon of dancing, fun, and entertainment, in the hopes of raising money for Children’s Hospital Colorado.

We had a great line up of talent, from the CU Denver Cheer and Dance team, to DJ Wyld Kard, Phocust, Hypnotic Vibes, and Miguel Dakota & the Differents! It only cost $6 to register, and all our funds went directly to children’s hospital.

Throughout the night we raised $3,100 for the hospital, and hope to raise even more in the future.

Continental-Crafting_JPEGContinental Crafting – April 25, 2017

This year’s annual crafting event went global with crafts from every continent and performances by UCD Percussion Ensembles and guitarist, Clint Koury. We also featured travel and nature documentaries on stage as they played.
Students painted mancala boards, created aboriginal papunya designs on rocks, wove together Scandinavian hearts, folded origami, and wrapped their very own Guatemalan worry dolls!
Thanks to everyone who came out for the last event of the school year! CU in the fall!
